If you want a relaxing start to a hike in the Odenwald holiday region or if you want to take a break between the various stages of your hiking holiday, the regional railways offer a well-structured network of connections. Whether you come with the S-Bahn via Mannheim and Heidelberg through the Neckar valley to Osterburken, or from the
Aschaffenburg direction with the ‘Westfrankenbahn’, the numerous stops allow an ideal entry to the desired starting point of your hike.

Request the route timetable for Mannheim – Heidelberg – Eberbach – Osterburken at the German train service ‘Deutsche Bahn’. Use the S-Bahn lines S1, S2, S3 and, among others, the lines of the AVG.
AVG to Mosbach and Sinsheim
The S41 line runs every hour via Offenau – Gundelsheim / Neckar – Hassmersheim – Neckarzimmern – Mosbach-Neckarelz – Mosbach West to Mosbach train station.
The S42 line leaves from Bad Friedrichshall main station via Bad Wimpfen Im Tal (in the valley) – Bad Wimpfen station – Bad Wimpfen Hohenstadt – Bad Rappenau spa park – Bad Rappenau station – Babstadt – Grombach – Steinsfurt - Sinsheim Museum / Arena to Sinsheim main station.

1) Call a Taxi (Ruftaxi) offers Neunkirchen – Neckargerach
The Neckar-Odenwald-Kreis and the community of Neunkirchen set up the ‘Ruftaxi’ line 8954 between Neunkirchen and Neckargerach train station. The ‘Ruftaxi’ line is a seasonal service from 1 April until 31 October. The route runs on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from Neckargerach via Neckarkatzenbach to Neunkirchen and back again.
As from now, Neckarsteig hikers can use these transport connections, set to match the start of the hiking season. This offers the opportunity to take a comfortable way to the S-Bahn Rhein-Neckar rail services (lines S1 / S2) at the beginnign and teh end of a long day of hiking.
The ‘Ruftaxi’ is a transport service which operates according to a fixed timetable at certain times. As the name suggests, it only runs if the trip is pre-booked. The booking must be made by phone at least one hour before departure using the telephone number given in the timetable. Simply state the location of the bus stop, the departure time from the timetable and the destination, and the taxi will come to pick you up. This service is operated by the ‘Ilgin’ taxi company from Mosbach and they will readily take your booking.
You can find the travel times and stops in the information systems of the Deutsche Bahn, the VRN, the website of the state of Baden-Württemberg and the Neckar-Odenwald-Kreis (www.neckar-odenwald-kreis.de/ruftaxi+fahrplan) and the municipality of Neunkirchen (www.neunkirchen- baden.de).
The fare for the ‘Ruftaxi’ is based on the tariffs of the ‘Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Neckar’ (VRN). The route Neunkirchen – Neckargerach passes through two fixed tariff zones, making the fare only € 2.60 for an adult and € 1.80 for Cildren between 6 and 14. Children travel free of charge until the age of six when accompanied by an adult with a valid ticket. Persons with a MAXX ticket, the ‘Over 60’ ticket and VRN annual passes travel for free. Handicapped persons with a valid pass also travel free of charge. Other VRN tariff offers or those of other transport associations and the German train system are not recognized.
2) Busscedule Aglasterhausen - Neunkirchen
Connection from Neunkirchen to public passenger transport is also possible via Aglasterhausen. Here you will find the timetable for the ‘Ringverkehr’ by bus between Neunkirchen Ludwigstraße (centre) and the S-Bahn station Aglasterhausen (connecting to Heidelberg or Heilbronn).
How about travelling by ship?
At the end of a stage it is wonderful to take a ship back again. Experience the magic of an incomparably beautiful river valley along the Castle Road through the Neckartal-Odenwald Nature Park
